Very excited about today’s mandolin blues instruction. This lick comes through the playing of Hollywood Fats (Michael Mann), who is in my opinion, the epitome of West Coast Jump Blues. From his tenure with James Harman to William Clarke to the Blasters to Canned Heat to his early teens with Muddy Waters, Fats killed on the guitar. This lick comes from his solo on Rock This House. It plays through the G chord working its way to the flat 7 (so it’s a good opening 4 bar lick to get into the IV chord–in this case, C). SWING this thing!
